London Underground
Leading the renewal of the ‘in-house’ haulage fleet, involving new locomotives, wagons and changes to depots.
London Underground has two engineering fleets supporting their track renewal work. Their in-house fleet is managed by their subsidiary company TransPlant and consists of battery and diesel locomotives and a fleet of various types of wagons. This capability is supported by the GB Railfreight fleet (see Metronet Case Study).
LU undertook a strategic review of this capability and employed Railfreight Consulting to undertake the following:
- Delivery of a new fleet of wagons to LU’s bespoke requirements;
- Delivery of a new locomotive capable of pulling heavier engineering trains;
- Review of LU’s engineering train depot capacity;
- Successful reprocurement of LU’s mainline haulage needs.
LU now have a modern haulage fleet with a greater haulage capability and a lower unit cost.
